A record of our events, moments, and impact on the ground.

Mazingira Week was launched at KINAP, Kiambu, by Kiambu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia, with a timely focus on what we can do as we head into the rains. The conversation covered the effects of climate change on our communities and the country, Kenya’s tree and forest cover, and the need for more young people to take up space in environmental conservation. For GenZen, this means turning the week into action: planting and caring for trees, cleaning our surroundings, protecting our water and drainage systems, and restoring the spaces we depend on. Mazingira starts with what we choose to do where we are. #MazingiraWeek #Kiambu #EnvironmentalConservation #ClimateAction #GenZenBlow🎊

On 15 August, Gen Zen celebrated six months of nurturing minds, communities and the planet by adopting Neema Girls Project- Limuru through our Adopt a Class initiative. Together with the girls, we planted trees and launched *Gen Zen Cohort 0001* a milestone made even more meaningful by their enthusiasm and participation. Each girl is nurturing a tree named after a virtue she admires and hopes to embody. As the trees grow, so too will the values they represent: courage, kindness, resilience, love, unity, responsibility, hope etc. By 1st October 2026, we had achieved a 100% tree survival rate. We will continue monitoring the trees progress while empowering the girls through our nature and nurture activities. Here’s to six months of Gen Zen and to a future where every tree, girl and virtue continues to take root and flourish. #GenZenBlow🎊

Gen Zen was honoured to be part of Rauka Afrika’s World Suicide Prevention Day conversation on 10 September, with our Founder and Chairperson serving as keynote speaker. We are especially grateful to Tom Rasto, Founder of Rauka Afrika, for opening the space for Gen Zen to contribute to this important conversation. The work being done by Rauka and its partners continues to remind us of the importance of creating spaces where difficult conversations can happen openly and without judgement. We were also inspired by the work of the other partners and the different ways they are contributing to suicide prevention and mental health support. The conversation must continue. #GenZenBlow🎊

Privileged to have been part of Ting’ang’a Youth Leadership Forum that focused on strengthening partnerships and empowering youth. This forum that brought more than 100 youth leaders in Kiambu serves as a reminder that nothing about the youth should be discussed without them. We look forward to youth inclusion as an organization and empowering young minds to become brave environmental stewards.

Gen Zen Youth Initiative was honored to participate in Innovate4Cities Conference (I4C26), hosted by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and UN-Habitat, hosted at United Nations Office Nairobi. It was a privilege to learn, connect, and exchange ideas with youth leaders, climate experts, researchers, policymakers, and innovators committed to building climate-resilient cities. We return inspired, with new knowledge and partnerships to strengthen our mission of using nature to nurture people and communities. For God, For Earth, and For Kiambu! Gen Zen BLOW!!!

Gen Zen Youth Initiative partnered with local chiefs and the Justice and Peace Commission of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church for a morning of tree planting and community dialogue in Gichocho. A total of 800 trees were planted across two community sites — Gichocho Comprehensive School and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. The event also created space for an important conversation on the growing disconnect between younger and older generations. Community members reflected on how nature can help build common ground, strengthen relationships, and support mental well-being. This is the heart of Gen Zen's approach: Using Nature to Nurture. Environmental action is not only about planting trees — it is also about building healthier, more connected, and more resilient communities. With this event, Gen Zen has now planted more than 3,000 trees since April 2026, reflecting growing momentum in community-led environmental stewardship and youth engagement. **Event Highlights** • 800 trees planted • Two community sites engaged • Local chiefs, the Justice and Peace Commission, and community youth in collective action Gen Zen welcomes partnerships with schools, local institutions, community organizations, and supporters who share a commitment to environmental restoration, youth leadership, and community well-being. On 17th April 2026, Gen Zen Youth Initiative planted 2,000 indigenous trees across five locations in the Kiambaa area of Kiambu County in a single day. The sites were chosen deliberately. Two schools. Two dispensaries. A Chief’s office. A police post. Not empty land ; living institutions, places where the Kiambaa community already gathers, heals, learns, and is served. Now they are also places where something grows. The event was carried out in partnership with Kenya Industrial Estates, the Kenya Red Cross, and the Kenya Forest Service, with partner staff joining Gen Zen volunteers on the ground across all five sites. It was our largest operation to date. It will not be our last.

Gen Zen Youth Initiative marked a defining milestone on April 2, 2026, with the successful launch of our inaugural community tree planting event at Kirigiti Girls Rehabilitation Centre, Kiambu County. The event was honoured by the presence of two Area Chiefs and two District Officers, reflecting a strong government recognition and community partnership. Together, we planted 200 indigenous seedlings; the first step in our commitment to restore Kiambu's green cover and transform the lives of young people. A new hope, rooted in community.
